George

George Cale Shumway Shoreline, Washington 1939-2026 George lived in Shoreline with his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Shumway. George was born in Ketchikan Alaska to Ralph and Hazel (Brown) Shumway. He completed first grade in Ketchikan before moving to Seattle, WA where he graduated from Roosevelt High School. He excelled in Track and Golf while in High School. After Graduation he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. George and Phyllis met in 1963 while both working at Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park. They were married in the fall of 1963. They lived in Beaverton, Oregon early in their marriage and then moved to Seattle, WA. George worked at Continental Can Company until 1967 then at Pacific Northwest Bell from 1967 to 1993 when he retired. They have three children, two daughters and one son, all living in Western Washington. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, restoring old cars, collecting coins, and betting on horse races. He had Bulldogs and belonged to the Bulldog club in Seattle. George's family and friends will remember him as being a person who liked to be helpful. He loved and took care of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Hazel Shumway. George is survived by his wife, children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He will be missed.
