Job Title: Director of Shareholder Communications and Engagement

Job Summary:

The Director of Communications and Engagement leads shareholder communications and community engagement department staff. The successful candidate is a dynamic leader with a proven track record of developing and delivering impactful communications strategies that drive change in audience perception and awareness and reach groups of all ages and levels of experience. This person facilitates innovation and challenges long-held beliefs and processes through engaging, curious, compassionate, courageous and forthright behaviors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Assists with recruiting, interviews, hires, and training new staff.
• Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement innovative shareholder communications and outreach strategies using cutting-edge technology and methods that inspire trust and cultivate forthright, honest, and transparent relationships with shareholder communities.
• Inspire and build talent through managing performance, coaching, mentoring, delegating, and developing a collaborative, high-performing staff of individual contributors and collaborative teammates.
• Invite staff to input and leverage their creativity, innovative ideas, enthusiasm, and potential to make meaningful impact. Encourage open conversation and constructive disagreement.
• Travel regularly to shareholder communities to promote Sealaska’s initiatives and deepen the company’s relationship with its Native ownership.
• Source and manage the use of external resources when specialized expertise is necessary.
• Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of the annual report, newsletters, press releases, outreach campaigns, election materials and other deliverables.
• Gather/analyze data to develop targeted approaches, measure outcomes and adapt.
• Manage change and (often) competing priorities with patience, confidence, and a hands-on, whatever-it-takes approach, working alongside team members.
• Oversee, plan and execute meaningful, well-organized community meetings and events.
• Develop and manage the departmental operating and capital budget.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences in an easily understandable way.
• Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building productive partnerships with shareholders, community organizations and internal/external stakeholders.
• Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, oversee cross-functional teams and meet deadlines.
• Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support shareholder meetings and events.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to adapt to new software as required.
• Strong preference given to Sealaska shareholders or shareholder descendants.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field required.
• At least 5 years of management experience.

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will largely perform duties in an office setting using a computer setup, including monitor, mouse, keyboard, camera/headset, and telephone.
• During the course of their duties, the employee is required to walk, use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend or crouch; talk and hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Some lifting of files, opening cabinets.
• Bending or standing as necessary.
• Ability to regularly lift and maneuver items up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office setting, and will be subject to the normal noise and temperature levels associated with such an environment.
In this position, the employee will also be required to travel, approximately 30-35% throughout the year. When traveling, employee will be exposed to weather conditions and other elements prevalent at the time. Travel may take place via airplane, floatplane, car or ferry as required based on destination. Employee will be subject to access and environmental aspects related to traveling via these mechanisms.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00
