Sealaska Seeking Applicants for President

We are continuing our search for a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Sealaska’s president. It is important that we find the right candidate to fill this position, which is why the Sealaska board of directors is being as exacting as possible as we search for a candidate capable of amplifying the impact of our mission and providing benefits that empower our shareholders. To this end, the Sealaska board of directors recently revised the job description for the position of president and sought the assistance of a professional recruiting firm. Our hope is to announce a successful candidate as our new president this coming summer.
With aligned and renewed focus in the form of this revised job description, we want to use all tools available to us as we designate the ideal candidate. That’s why we have contracted Precision Talent Solutions (PTS), a veteran-owned small business with a global team of executive professionals. PTS was chosen based on their prior experience with Alaska Native institutions and, at Sealaska’s direction, their screening process is prioritizing shareholder benefits, integrity and community relationship building abilities in applicants.
This recruiting process has been ongoing since October 2024 as we take the necessary time to hire a candidate who will make the most positive impact for our shareholders. While the roles of Sealaska president and CEO were previously a single, consolidated position, these responsibilities have been split in response to Sealaska’s growth. With our increasing scale of operations as well as the responsibilities of expanding shareholder programs and benefits development, the decision was made to designate two individuals to fulfill these distinct roles. This is a common model across Alaska Native corporations and is a management structure we have utilized previously in our history.
While interim president Joe Nelson expertly executes the relevant responsibilities for this position during the recruiting process, Sealaska’s board of directors has been hard at work revising our vision and strategic plan. This revision process contributed to the board’s desire to refine the responsibilities of the president in accordance with the new vision and strategic plan.
We are excited to continue building upon our operational successes and continue making meaningful contributions to our communities through dividends, shareholder benefits, shareholder and community programs, and cultural and heritage investments. We look forward to introducing our new vision and strategic plan to our shareholders soon, reflecting our shared values and shareholder priorities.

As walls rapidly go up on the new Mendenhall Valley location of the Glory Hall, Sealaska’s board of directors sent a strong message of support for the initiative by committing $50,000 to the project at its December meeting.
