First Quarter Board Q&A provides shareholders an opportunity to connect with their board
Monday, March 4, 2024

Members of Sealaska’s board of directors had an opportunity to connect with shareholders and answer questions during the Feb. 29 board Q&A session hosted on MySealaska. Directors Barbara Cadiente Nelson, Ka’illjuus Lisa Lang joined Executive Chair Joe Nelson and Board Youth Advisor Deikeenaak’w  Connor Ulmer in providing an update following January’s board meeting and shared upcoming opportunities and associated deadlines with participants. Sealaska’s language grant application period is currently open and is accepting applications on a rolling basis until funding has been exhausted – apply here

While the deadline for shareholder resolutions has since passed (on Friday, March 1), several additional election-related opportunities remain open:

  • Board-endorsed candidate nominations: 5 p.m. Alaska time on Friday, March 15, 2025 (in-hand)
  • Independent nominees: 5 p.m. Alaska time on Friday, March 29 (in-hand)
  • Board youth advisor: Wednesday, March 27

As a reminder, Sealaska’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders will be held on Saturday, June 29 in Sitka. Sealaska’s board of directors encourages shareholder participation in elections and welcomes the insight and perspectives offered by new and independent candidates.

The hosts also took questions from an engaging group of shareholders in the chat. Questions asked and answered include:

  • Potential ecosystem impacts of wind power, which Sealaska helps facilitate through ocean-health focused businesses like Seas Geosciences
  • A question about Native allotments and Sealaska’s involvement and advocacy
  • Updates on Landless legislation currently before Congress, with more information at https://www.withoutland.org/
  • Sealaska’s leadership structure, specifically the difference between leadership on each the corporate and operations side
  • Questions about shareholder hire and available opportunities for shareholders

We appreciate the engagement and participation of the shareholders who tuned into the event, and the feedback we received from those who completed the post-event survey. Those who completed the survey were eligible to win one of three $100 cash prizes.
