Actor Martin Sensmeier Inspires and Gets Candid with Sealaska During Live Virtual Event

A video recording of Sealaska’s interactive Zoom session with Tlingit and Koyukon Athabascan actor Martin Sensmeier is now available at the link below for viewing.
The session included more than 100 participants, who were treated to a conversation between Sensmeier and Sealaska Board Chair Joe Nelson. Nelson asked Sensmeier questions about his path to stardom in feature films including his breakout role in “The Magnificent Seven” alongside Denzel Washington and Vincent Donofrio.
Since then, Sensmeier, who is also known for his roles in “Wind River,” “Yellowstone,” and HBO’s “Westworld,” has established a successful career in Hollywood. He has recently been cast in the Vietnam drama, “The Things They Carried,” alongside Tom Hardy, Tye Sheridan and Stephan James, and his new series on Netflix, “The Liberator,” debuts this Wednesday, Nov. 11.
During the event, Sensmeier shared an inspiring message of personal growth and determination.
“Every industry is tough, no matter what you want to do,” Sensmeier said. “Don’t say, ‘That’s too big,’ or ‘That’s too hard,’ just put your head down and go to work. Nothing happens overnight. … Just believe in yourself because no one’s going to believe in you better than you can believe in yourself.”

One of the few remaining birth speakers of the Northern Haida dialect of Xaad kíl, Jane Kristovich (K’ujúuhl), joined her ancestors on August 18, 2021 at the age of 93. The 2018 midterm elections are Tuesday, November 6, 2018, and will feature hundreds of congressional, state and local races across the country. Sealaska has actively engaged in the political process, advocating on behalf of our shareholders and Native communities for decades. It follows a practice begun in 1912 with the formation of the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood.

As a public space that fosters a sense of community while sheltering important native plant and wildlife species, Lena Beach has long been known as a place for locals to picnic, swim or just enjoy nature. Sealaska recently completed a substantial renovation of this iconic recreation area, which will also strengthen pink and coho salmon runs and improve access and preserve the beach for the future.

Sealaska’s new shareholder bereavement benefit is now known as Deishú Memorial Fund. Deishú roughly translates to “the beginning and the end of the road, eternal journey” in Tlingit.
