Sealaska hosted a virtual candidate’s forum on Monday, May 8 to introduce shareholders to the seven candidates running for four open seats on the Sealaska Board of Directors. The candidates answered a series of questions related to the company’s business performance and the priorities each candidate will focus on if elected. A memorial totem pole honoring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirits (MMIWG2S) was recently raised near Klawock. One of the few remaining birth speakers of the Northern Haida dialect of Xaad kíl, Jane Kristovich (K’ujúuhl), joined her ancestors on August 18, 2021 at the age of 93. Sealaska recently completed well-attended community meetings in nine Southeast Alaska and Washington communities. In mid-May, we visited with nearly a thousand Sealaska shareholders, sharing updates about Sealaska and taking the time to listen and learn about each community’s concerns and ideas.
