Sealaska Board Announces Get Out the Native Vote Campaign and 2026 General Election Endorsements

The Sealaska Board of Directors met regarding the upcoming 2026 General Election for U.S. Congressional seats in both the House and Senate and for the Alaska gubernatorial election, and on the preservation of ranked choice voting. Sealaska’s strategic mission and goals were at the foundation of the Board’s consideration in assessing the November 2 General Election.  
 
“Alaska Natives have a powerful voice and there are many significant State and Federal public policy issues impacting our communities,” said Sealaska President Sarah Dybdahl. “For generations, Alaska Native people have worked to ensure that all voices are heard and that every citizen has a meaningful opportunity to participate in our democracy. We are kicking off a Get Out the Native Vote campaign to support shareholders in exercising their civic duty in the upcoming general election.”  
 
The Sealaska Board of Directors adopted a resolution opposing Ballot Measure 2 and endorsed the No on 2 – Protect Alaska's Elections Campaign. Alaska's current election system preserves broad voter participation through open primaries and ranked choice voting, ensuring all voters have a meaningful opportunity to participate in the electoral process regardless of party affiliation. The measure would also repeal the state's nation-leading campaign finance disclosure laws, ending requirements that political groups disclose the true sources of spending in Alaska elections. “That history reminds us that transparency, inclusion, and voter participation are not abstract principles; they are hard-won rights. Ballot Measure 2 would diminish those gains and move us away from the principles of openness and participation that have helped build a stronger Alaska,” said Sealaska Board Chair Rinehart. 
 
“Our diversity is our strength, and through our history we have worked productively with each Alaska delegation, regardless of political party, toward progress and protection of our people and rights. In the upcoming ranked choice voting process, Alaskans have numerous candidates that have contributed positively toward many public policy initiatives impacting Native people,” said Rinehart. To honor their contributions and commitment to our communities, and to honor the diverse positions of our shareholders, Sealaska is endorsing: for U.S. Senate, Mary Peltola, and Dan S. Sullivan; for U.S. House, Nick Begich and Bill Hill; and for Alaska Governor, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. 
 
We encourage shareholders and their families and neighbors to review the positions and accomplishments of the endorsed candidates above. Most importantly, join us at the polls on November 2 to Get Out the Native Vote. Our representation and voice matters.
