Sealaska Board of Directors April Meeting Recap

The Sealaska Board of Directors met on April 10, 2026, and conducted key governance actions while receiving updates on shareholder services, shareholder development, natural resources and regional economic development.
 
"After wrapping up my second meeting as your newest Board Youth Advisor, I am seeing in action why this work is so important," Board Youth Advisor Caleb Lee said, "It reminds me how we are a part of something that is really special: our work, land, businesses and geosciences, it is important to learn and be part of that."
 

Board Actions and Approvals

During the meeting, directors:
  • Selected a new Corporate Secretary; Madeline Soboleff Levy
  • Approved Sealaska’s spring shareholder distribution
  • Received updates from management regarding shareholder services and development and regional priorities

Shareholder Services Update

Directors received updates on continued improvements to shareholder services, including:
  • 36 online notary requests completed to date, increasing access and convenience
  • The launch of a new obituary feature on Mysealaska.com to support families and honor shareholder legacies

Shareholder Development and Workforce Pathways

The Board received updates on shareholder development efforts focused on education, workforce readiness and long‑term career pathways. Updates included:
  • The placement of 39 internships, supporting hands‑on experience and workforce development across the region
  • Continued work aligned with Generation SE
  • Currently recruiting for: a Shareholder Development Manager to lead education and workforce initiatives and coordinate shareholder career pathways.
  • Currently recruiting for: a Public Relations Manager to oversee organizational communications and ensure clear, timely information reaches shareholders and communities.

Natural Resources, Sustainability and Economic Development

The Board received updates on Natural Resources and economic development activities, including:
  • Progress on stream restoration, greenhouse projects and related sustainability efforts
  • Ongoing focus on clean energy and climate change
  • Expansion of ecosystem services and modern, sustainable approaches to ongoing initiatives in supporting regional sustainability and climate resilience

Environmental Stewardship and Infrastructure

Directors were briefed on major environmental and infrastructure projects, including:
  • The Mendenhall Barrier Project in Juneau, advancing as a critical flood‑mitigation effort
  • Completion of more than 40 projects over the past two years, improving nearly 10 miles of salmon streams and 4,400 acres of forest lands in partnership with Tribes, NGOs and state and federal agencies
Sealaska’s Board continues to guide work that balances strong governance, shareholder value, environmental stewardship and long‑term benefits for our communities.

Aak’w Kwáan (Juneau, Alaska) — The Sealaska Board of Directors met this Friday and approved the amount for Sealaska’s upcoming distribution. A spring 2026 distribution totaling $29.7 million will be issued to shareholders on Thursday, April 16.
