Wednesday, October 4, 2023
Sealaska believes that a better future for people and the planet is within reach. Join us for a four-part series exploring ocean health, navigating the waters of Southeast and our rich connection to navigating the Pacific Ocean.
Southeast Alaska welcomed Hawaiian relatives from the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS). PVS launched Moananuiākea, a voyage for earth in Juneau, Alaska. The voyage inspires a new generation of navigators to face the coming storms and the resilience to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people have navigated the waters of their traditional homelands for the last 10,000 years. Sealaska talked to navigators about this combined history.
The Moananuiākea voyage highlights the continued work that is needed to restore the ocean and waterways, that represents health and well-being. In Chapter 4 – we explore the connection to the ocean and what ocean health means to us as Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people.
