Sealaska hosted a virtual candidate’s forum on Monday, May 8 to introduce shareholders to the seven candidates running for four open seats on the Sealaska Board of Directors. The candidates answered a series of questions related to the company’s business performance and the priorities each candidate will focus on if elected. The Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand Camp approved a resolution on Thursday, June 16 to support Sealaska’s proposal to remove as a criteria for eligibility for Class D stock the requirement that applicants have at least one-quarter Alaska Native blood quantum. Alaska’s primary for the special election to fill our open Congressional seat has begun. This seat was held by the late Congressman Don Young for nearly fifty years – and now, forty-eight candidates are running to fill it. In a resolution adopted Friday, Oct. 30, Sealaska’s board of directors voted to add an additional $2.5 million to its scholarship endowment fund to meet the increased demand for support from students receiving postsecondary education on a part-time basis.
