It has been 40 years since Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian Elders convened in 1980 to discuss the importance of preserving our culture to benefit future generations. The resulting text of that meeting, “Because We Cherish You,” laid out the Elders’ vision for maintaining our way of life and passing it on to our grandchildren. The anniversary of that momentous gathering gave us renewed cause to reflect the direction they provided, and as a result, “Because We Cherish You” became the theme of much of Sealaska’s work this year.
As the year comes to a close, we invite you to view some of our favorite videos from 2020, which highlight the concept of cherishing future generations and our shared heritage. This commitment is realized every day in the actions we take that positively impact our shareholders, our communities and our businesses.

As walls rapidly go up on the new Mendenhall Valley location of the Glory Hall, Sealaska’s board of directors sent a strong message of support for the initiative by committing $50,000 to the project at its December meeting. Molly of Denali is a new animated series that follows the adventures of 10-year-old Molly Mabray, an Alaska Native girl from the Gwich’in/Koyukon/Dena’ina Athabascan tribes in the fictional village of Qyah. The show is produced by Boston public television station WGBH and aired on PBS stations this month.

SEALASKA STOCK ENROLLMENT PROCESS IS 100% ONLINE The enrollment process was recently simplified, eliminating notarization requirements. Applicants can now take a picture and upload supporting documents on the MySealaska.com online application. Supporting documents include birth certificate, Certificate of Indian Blood, and potentially parents’ or grandparents’ birth certificates.
