I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you, the shareholders of Sealaska, for the opportunity to serve you this past year as a director. I was extremely honored to represent you and learned a tremendous amount about the important role the corporation plays in the lives of our shareholders. It’s long been a goal of mine to serve our people and I’m thankful I was able to do that.
Over the past year, I’ve had a chance to reflect on my long-term plans. I’m at a point in my life where I have the opportunity to spend more time with my family and I’ve decided to retire from my position as the Executive Director of the Baranof Island Housing Authority in Sitka. In doing so, I also made the difficult decision to finish my term that ends in 2020 and not seek re-election to the Sealaska board.
Finally, I want to thank the family of the late Ross Soboleff for the opportunity to serve the remainder of Ross’ term after his passing.

Hearts are heavy at Sealaska after the passing of Sealaska director Albert Kookesh, Tlingit leader, former senator, business owner and fierce advocate for Alaska Natives. As walls rapidly go up on the new Mendenhall Valley location of the Glory Hall, Sealaska’s board of directors sent a strong message of support for the initiative by committing $50,000 to the project at its December meeting. Soboleff’s passing in early July created a vacancy on the thirteen-member board.
